Turkish horror is a road I’d really like to go down. From rip-off cinema like Seytan (aka Turkish Exorcist) and the contemporary Dabbe series, to the eagerly anticipated cops vs. cult film Baskin, there seems to be a true ‘no rules’ attitude here. For example, S?CC?N 2, director Alper Mestçi’s sequel to the 2014 original looks unreal, full of true gory madness. S?CC?N 2 looks a graphic folktale replete with guts, black magick, possessed clergy and many a terrible things happening to infants and children. Just wait for the clip’s final gag.
While a rough translation doesn’t make the synopsis clear, it does seem that S?CC?N 2 is very much about folklore rooted in rural Turkey and Islam. Of course, the international genre squad at Twitch posted the trailer. I really hope this makes it to the U.S.
Update: The trailer now features English subtitles, and map out a tale about an accursed child. The preview notes a spell using 41 stitches and claims the film is based on a true story, one that happened to Issiz Cuma. Unfortunately, most search results for Issiz Cuma are in Turkish. If anyone can help in the comments, that’d be great. Director Alper Mestçi tells Shock the film is out in Turkey this July and will hopefully hit U.S. festivals after.
