NYC: See Larry Cohen’s God Told Me To at Nitehawk w/ Star Q&A

Having just hit Blu-ray from William Lustig’s invaluable Blue Underground, Larry Cohen’s utterly mad God Told Me To is on a small theatrical tour, stopping next week at Brooklyn’s Nitehawk Cinema and featuring a Q&A moderated by Shock’s Sam Zimmerman.

On Thursday, March 5th, at 7:30 p.m., Cohen’s vision of widespread chaos across New York City unspools at Nitehawk with stars Tony Lo Bianco and Randy Jurgensen on hand for a Q&A. In the film, ‘armed with nothing but a cheap mail order rifle, an everyday Joe turns expert sniper, randomly taking out over a dozen New Yorkers. Devout detective Peter Nicholas (Lo Bianco) is on the case and gets shaken to the core when he finds out the killer’s motive: God told him to do it. As the investigation continues, more and more New Yorkers go on divinely inspired rampages and it’s up to Detective Nicholas to find out if these people are acting on God’s word, or if this sudden spat of violence has a more terrestrial cause.’

Cohen has made some of the great New York City terror films, and it’s always a treat to see them projected. God Told Me To could be one of the more underrated in his filmography, so if you’ve never caught on a big screen, or never seen at all, set your sights on Thursday. It should be great.
