Last night’s mid-season finale of “The Walking Dead” unsurprisingly set a ratings record for the juggernaut show on AMC with 14.8 million viewers and 9.6 million adults 18-49. Though not the highest of the season, it is a 23% audience increase over last seasons corresponding episode.
The audience-driven success of The Walking Dead and Talking Dead is remarkable, and something we never take for granted, said Charlie Collier, AMC president. We hold in such high regard Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple and all of our exceptional executive producers, cast and crew for their passionate efforts that led to television history for The Walking Dead once again last night.”
The highest-rated episode of the series belongs to the Season 5 premiere from earlier this year which brought in over 17 million viewers. For comparison, the pilot episode of the series only garnered 5.35 million viewers back in 2010.
The series will return in February of 2015 for the remaining 8 episodes of Season 5 and has already been renewed for a sixth season, set to begin in fall of 2015. A spin-off series is also in development at AMC.
