Adam Windgard, Patrick Fugit Board Robert Kirkman’s Outcast

Deadline brings word this afternoon on an exciting new comic adaptation over at Cinemax as Robert Kirkman and Paul Azaceta’s Outcast has found its leading man. Patrick Fugit (Almost Famous, Gone Girl) will star as Kyle Barnes, a young man plagued by demonic possession since he was a child.

Fugit is joined by Kingdom of Heaven’s Philip Glenister as the hard drinking, hard gambling Reverend Anderson and Gabriel Bateman who will play the younger version of Barnes. The outlet also reports that You’re Next and The Guest director Adam Wingard has been tapped to direct the pilot episode of the series.

“Despite the success of ‘The Walking Dead,’ ‘Outcast’ is only my second foray into the horror genre,” Kirkman said previously. “I think Kyle Barnes is every bit as compelling as Rick Grimes and demonic possession is way scarier than zombies – so this is going to be fun.”

Kirkman has penned the script for the pilot episode which has already been greenlit by Cinemax and has been in development since November, before the first issue was even published.
