USA Today is running some supreme click bait this morning that even I can’t pass up, but I’ll add my thoughts on all of this down below. Don Mancini, the creator of Chucky, told the outlet that he would love to see his malicious doll team up with Annabelle, the star of the weekend box office hit Annabelle, at some point.
“I can see that (even) in 20 years from now,” Mancini said, adding: “We would be into it, the only problem is that we are in different studios. That would probably be years worth of red tape to work it out,” says Mancini. “But if it all could be worked out, then yes, we’re very into it.”
Beyond that whole “right things” and “coming from different studios” hurtle, there’s also this: Annabelle isn’t an inanimate object brought to life. She doesn’t walk. She doesn’t talk. So yeah, that would have to be addressed, too, I would think.
The real news of this story, I think is the fact that the article says Mancini is in the midst of writing a new Chucky film. Curse of Chucky, which was released last year on DVD, Blu-ray and VOD proved to be very successful for Universal. Mancini has alluded to another sequel in the past, but this is the first firm news that he’s writing another entry.
No title has been set yet, but I’m sure he already has one in mind.
