Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2 Will Have to Happen Without Wirkola

file_171789_3_hansel3News-wise, it has been a busy last two weeks for Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 2. The funny thing is: The studio has made no official comment about anything that has been brought up. The news has been purely driven by the director and cast…so who really knows if Paramount will move on the sequel at all. Still, the news rolls on. The latest update comes from our brothers and sisters at Fangoria.

In their recent chat with Tommy Wirkola, the writer-director said he’s going to refrain from helming the follow-up to his film which grossed over $200 million worldwide.

“I have been lately attached to a few more things, it’s just a matter of time and priorities. I did DEAD SNOW 1, then HANSEL & GRETEL 1, and then DEAD SNOW 2. I want to do something a little bit different now and not just do sequels. I did write the script and I hope to be involved in it. But yeah, I won’t be directing it.”

Wirkola told us earlier this month that he had turned in a sequel script to Paramount. Our report was followed by another in which star Jeremy Renner said he’d be game to come back but it depended on schedule.
