That image you see is the latest look at Night of the Living Dead: Origins 3D. And guess what? It sounds like the film is done because a press release we received today says the film is screening to potential buyers at Cannes. This has been a project we’ve been tracking since 2009, just to give you a sense of time.
Directed by Zebediah De Soto and co-written by De Soto, Warren Davis II and David Reuben Schwartz, the film stars veterans Tony Todd and Tom Sizemore, along with scream queen Danielle Harris, Sarah Habel, Sydney Tamiia Poitier, Bill Mosley and Joseph Pilato.
The film is being produced by Simon West, Jib Polhemus, Gus Malliarodakis and Matty Mangone-Miranda of the Graphic Film Company, Paresh Ghelani of 2020 Entertainment, and Naveen Chathappuram and Charles Leslie of Indus Media and Entertainment.
This re-imagining is the story of a group of survivors fighting to stay alive when a mysterious plague unleashes the undead on New York City. Barricaded in an abandoned apartment building, the characters from the original film face new terror and question each other’s compassion and sense of humanity as they fight to stay alive against the army of the living dead. Shot completely in a CG setting using stereoscopic 3D, the film engages state-of-the-art facial capture technology that is a step beyond anything used before, as it becomes a hybrid of graphic novel and traditional animation.
