Shuhei Yoshida, Head of Sony Worldwide Studios, stated that the game was still in development. That being said, as for which platform and whether or not it would use Morpheus, a Sony PR rep who was on hand refused to allow the question to be answered. Interesting.
Yoshida did make a statement though: “That would be very interesting. Because it’s a horror game, and the people are tweeting to me ‘I want to play Outlast in Morpheus.’ I think that, in terms of genre, that’s a really good fit. If you really want to make serious games for Morpheus, the game design would be really, really different.”
For the uninitiated, Project Morpheus is SCE’s prototype virtual reality (VR) system that works with PS4. This would be a fabulous idea (forcing me to use the word fabulous). Though again, this is all speculation, albeit educated speculation. The set-up has a group of teens meeting at a place in the woods on the anniversary of a friend’s disappearance. Murder ensues.
According to the official site, the developers have been working with Hollywood writers and US TV talent to “…bring the Teen Horror experience to PlayStation. Inspired by classic movies in the genre, we expect that Until Dawn will draw you in with its characters, killer dialogue and shocking, twisted story.”
Time will tell on this one, though we’ve put in plenty of time already. Hopefully we’ll learn more at this year’s E3. Stay tuned.
