Chain Letter Director Conjurs Akuma

Shooting in the U.S. and Japan

Writer-director Deon Taylor is set to direct Akuma. He will also produce through his new production outfit Hidden Empire Film Group.

Co-written by Blayne Weaver and Joe Bockol, the movie follows a young Japanese woman, Akira, who is looking to put her life back together after a recent tragedy. As she pushes hard to overcome these problems she soon realizes that she’s fighting something very dark. The title “Akuma” is Japanese for “demon” (not to be confused with the Street Fighter character).

Taylor will shoot the film handheld and is said to be tapping into the tone of Paranormal Activity and The Exorcist. Shooting commences next month in Los Angeles, Sacramento, Japan and San Francisco.

Screen Media holds the distribution rights for the film which is due to hit theaters next fall.

Taylor’s previous efforts include Chain Letter, Nite Tales and Dead Tone.
