The fate of the beast…
Although Joe Johnston talked quite a bit about the production of The Wolfman in our frank exclusive interview, he opened up a bit more in a recent Timeout interview. Here’s an excerpt in which he describes the tale of two endings…
Johnston insists they didnât shoot a new ending â rather they enhanced what was there. âThere were two versions of the ending [that] involved the fate of the Wolfman,â he recalls. âWhen we went back to shoot the new stuff, we enhanced one, because our suspicion was it was going to be the more dynamic ending. So we shot new stuff for that, the B version, which is now the version in the film.â Two endings? âIt was two versions of an ending,â he clarifies. âOne was where one character died, and in the other version, the other character died. After our first preview it was clear we wanted the ending to go one way. We extended it, made it more rewarding.â
Presumably, we’ll see both cuts on the upcoming DVD. For more, read on…
