Shrine Update from Jack Brooks Director

Expanded synopsis, crew revealed

The Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer team is switching gears for a darker tale called The Shrine. Since this report we’ve received an updated plot synopsis courtesy of director Jon Knautz:

After a young American backpacker goes missing in Europe, a group of journalists link his disappearance to a remote Polish village called Alvaina. Upon further investigation, the journalists discover that Alvaina has a history of bizarre cult activity revolving around human sacrifice. Hellbent on revealing the truth, they travel to the small village to uncover the story first hand. But after the discovery of an ancient stone statue hidden within the town, they quickly find themselves pursued by a mysterious and vengeful group of locals. Forced into the gruesome reality of true survival horror, the journalists soon realize that Alvaina hides a much darker secret than they could ever imagine.

Knautz tells us, “Unlike Jack Brooks, The Shrine will have much more of a serious tone and dives into a complex and twisted world of survival horror. The death sequences are pretty intense and quite visceral. Lets just say that audiences are gonna be glad they still have their eyeballs after they see what happens to the victims of The Shrine. I’m really excited about this one. It’s gonna hurt bad…in a good way.”

Shooting begins this August in Toronto. Trevor “Jack Brooks” Matthews is producing and will co-star as one of the villagers. Knautz co-penned the script with Brendan Moore. “David Scott will be doing our special effects once again and Ryan Shore is coming back to score the film.”
