He’s been doing what for sixteen years?
Freddy Krueger. Papa Jupiter. Krug. Horace Pinker. The Ghost Face killer. Wes Craven’s oeuvre has birthed a wide array of baddies. Until now, little is known about what he has in store for 25/8, the story of a young man living in the shadow of his serial killer father who may or may not still be alive sixteen years after his reign of terror. Is Craven aiming for an iconic maniac? Something more subtle? Realistic?
During a panel discussion on art and film last night, Craven offered a hint of what’s to come: “We had a talented storyboard artist. We were doing an additional shoot and I said to my wife Iya, who’s the producer, I still don’t quite know what the bad guy looks like. Let’s get a conceptual artist. We [described] this is where the man comes from. He’s kind of a figure who lives under the river, sleeps under the bridges, deep in the woods – he’s been that way for sixteen years. Eats bark. And [the artist] came back the next day with this fabulous rendering he did in Photoshop. Everybody sparked off of that and all of the special effects makeup artists started to pool around it.”
It would seem if you saw the film clip that played to Comic-Con audiences last summer, you might have gotten a taste of this killer. The description seems to fit.
