On track for a 2010 release?
The Hollywood Reporter‘s Risky Biz Blog says Damian Shannon and Mark Swift are at work on a sequel to this month’s Friday the 13th for New Line and Platinum Dunes. The follow-up has not received the greenlight, however.
To distill what this article states – which carries confusing sentences like “the new âFridayâ is expected to be not a sequel so much as a follow-up” (huh?!) – part two may find a new director at the helm as Marcus Nispel is pursuing other projects. Amanda Righetti and Jared Padalecki’s involvement is up in the air as well due to scheduling.
If the script is approved and New Line gives the film a greenlight, Platinum Dunes would like to have the film in theaters in the latter half of 2010. Again, lots of “ifs.” Platinum Dunes is focusing heavily on A Nightmare on Elm Street at the moment, but there’s little doubt in our mind we’ll be hearing more about Jason Voorhees’ return once that film is in the can.
