Shooting this summer in Michigan
A redo of Martin Barnewitz’s Danish horror film Room 205 begins production this summer in Michigan.
According to The Oakland Press, the pic will be produced by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert’s Ghost House Pictures, the genre production outfit which helped introduce Barnewitz’s film to U.S. audiences through a DVD distribution deal with Lionsgate last October. The Grudge‘s Stephen Susco is penning the screenplay.
Update: ShockTillYouDrop.com has learned Barnewitz is returning to direct.
“Room 205 is about a haunted dorm room,”, Raimi says. “It’s a neat screenplay that will become a lovely, bright Midwestern university and tell about how kids become adjusted to their new surroundings. In the midst of that, the supernatural will rear its terrifying head.”
To be more specific, the film tells of a University student and her dorm who are spooked by the ghost of a former resident that begins to pick the students off. (Watch a trailer here.) The original film’s Barnewitz went on to direct Messengers 2: The Scarecrow for Ghost House.
By bringing this tale to his home state of Michigan, Raimi – who has Drag Me to Hell (early thoughts) on the way – is boosting the area economy while taking advantage of financial incentivies. For more on this click here.
