Essential Taps Rights for Barker’s Dread

DiBlasi’s adaptation shooting soon



Essential Entertainment is pairing with Matador Pictures for Dread, the big screen adaptation of Clive Barker’s short story we first broke the news to you about last month (here). Essential announced it will handle worldwide rights and production is expect to begin this July with casting announcements on the way.

Written for the screen by Anthony DiBlasi, who will also direct, Dread is being described as a psychological thriller about three college students immersed in the study of fear. One of the students begins to seek salvation from his obsession by exploiting the terrors of fellow participants.

Clive Barker, Jorge Saralegui and Joe Daley will produce for Barker’s Midnight Picture Show with Lauri Apelian and Nigel Thomas from Matador and Plum Films’ Micky MacPherson. Essential’s credits include another Barker tale, Book of Blood, directed by John Harrison, and the horror-com Stan Helsing
