Second best opening weekend in the series
If Twisted Pictures and Lionsgate needed any positive reinforcement to move on to a fifth chapter in the lucrative “Saw” franchise, they got it. Saw IV, following a strong Friday opening, sliced up the competition and arrived at number one at the box office grossing an estimated $32.1 million dollars. That’s a million less than what Saw III opened with last year and the second highest opening in the franchise.
Columbia Pictures’ 30 Days of Night, meanwhile, slipped into third place taking in a paltry $6.7 million. And a re-release of Rob Zombie’s Halloween found Michael Myers scaring up an additional $156,000 on 271 screens bringing that film’s domestic gross to $57.9 million.
