Mickey Mouse Short Horror Film The Vanishing of S.S. Willie Out Now

Despite several Mickey Mouse horror projects being eager to be the first out of the gate in 2024, a short analog horror film has beaten them to it.

The Vanishing of S.S. Willie Sails onto YouTube

The Vanishing of S.S. Willie is a 9-minute short based on the now public domain version of Mickey Mouse from the 1928 animated short Steamboat Willie. It’s a faux documentary claiming to have long-lost footage of the fictional disappearance of the S.S. Willie in 1909.

You can watch the short below.

While it’s easy to look at anything using the public domain version of the Mouse with cynicism when we’re just a few days into 2024, this is easily one of the more creative uses of Steamboat Willie to emerge so far.

What odds on us getting into double figures of Steamboat Willie adaptation announcements by the month’s end? We’re already halfway there. Elsewhere, we’ve had a horror game, and two movie projects, one of which could be here as soon as March, plus a webcomic from a Popeye artist.

The Vanishing of S.S. Willie is by Night Signal Entertainment and is directed and written by Nick Lives
