Taylor Swift‘s Eras tour is currently in progress with ongoing shows in Europe. This weekend, on August 8, 9, and 10, there were three scheduled shows in Vienna, Austria. However, they have now been canceled, and ticketholders have received refunds.
Let’s take a look at what exactly happened and why the Eras tour concert shows in Vienna were canceled.
Why was Taylor Swift’s Vienna concert canceled?
Taylor Swift’s Vienna concert shows were canceled after two suspects were arrested for allegedly planning a terror attack.
Three scheduled shows of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Vienna had to be canceled. This happened after the confirmation from government officials about a planned terror attack in Vienna. The police also arrested two suspects on Wednesday in relation to the same matter. A 19-year-old Austrian citizen and another suspect were arrested in the morning and afternoon, respectively.
Franz Ruf, the director-general for public safety in the Ministry of the Interior, spoke at a press conference. He mentioned that the suspects allegedly radicalized themselves online and that Vienna was the target of their attack. Additionally, he said Swift’s concert was the primary target of the 19-year-old. As per ABC News, sources told them that in early July, U.S. Intelligence found at least one of the suspects pledged to ISIS-K on Telegram, the messaging platform.
After the cancellation, Barracuda Music posted a statement on Instagram that read, “With confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone’s safety. All tickets will be automatically refunded within the next 10 business days.”
As a result, all three shows in Vienna remain canceled, and refunds have been initiated. Taylor Swift’s next three shows will take place in London on August 15, 16, and 17. These London shows will conclude the European leg of the Eras tour.
