Miley Cyrus & Selena Gomez: What Happened Between Them? Disney Controversy Explained

In the latest episode of their re-watch podcast, Wizards of Waverly Pod, Jennifer Stone and David DeLuise delved into the 2009 crossover event between Wizards of Waverly Place, Hannah Montana, and The Suite Life on Deck. They discussed why Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez, despite both being featured in the episode, never shared any scenes together. Here are all the details.

What happened between Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez?

On a recent episode of the Wizards of Waverly Pod podcast, Jennifer Stone, who played Gomez’s best friend, explained that the tension between Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez stemmed from their mutual romantic interest in Jonas. Stone pointed out that the situation was simply high school drama.

Cyrus and Gomez’s notable absence of shared scenes during the Disney Channel crossover event, Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana, has intrigued fans for years. The reason behind this was reportedly their past connection with Nick Jonas.

In a recent episode of the Wizards of Waverly Pod podcast, David DeLuise asked, “Did they not get along during that shoot or something?” To this, Stone replied, “I mean, come on. It was, like, high school. Like, they both dated Nick [Jonas]. I think Miley dated him first, and then Selena dated him, and then it was just messy high-school nonsense. They’re fine now. They’re all good now. But, yeah, it was high school, just BS.”

Cyrus and Jonas were linked from 2006 to 2007, while Gomez’s relationship with him spanned from 2008 to 2010. Stone described the situation as typical high school nonsense, noting that while the stars had their moments of tension, they have since moved past it. Gomez herself addressed the situation in a 2016 interview with W Magazine, clarifying that there was no feud. According to People, she said, “We never feuded. We both liked the same guy when we were 16.”

In 2018, Miley Cyrus strongly came to Selena Gomez’s defense when Stefano Gabbana, a designer from Dolce & Gabbana, insulted Gomez by labeling her “ugly” in a social media post. This further indicates that any past issues have long been resolved.
