The events depicted in Star Wars: The Acolyte Episode 7 finally explain what happened on Brendok 16 years ago, though certain aspects of the story still remain in the dark. This includes whether Mother Koril is dead or alive. Before this episode, most viewers presumed that she died in the fire in episode 3, even though we don’t see her body. Episode 7 further solidifies the mystery of her fate.
Here is what we think happened to Mother Koril in The Acolyte Episode 7.
Did Mother Koril die on Brendok in The Acolyte Episode 7?
No, Koril might not have died on Brendok in The Acolyte Episode 7. Sol kills Aniseya after mistaking her actions for an attack. The death of their leader prompts Koril and the rest of the coven to go on the offensive. Unfortunately, they soon discover their abilities are no match for the Jedi and their arrows can’t penetrate Torbin’s defenses. Although Koril’s attacks on Sol initially go unanswered, he slices her weapon in half when the explosions begin. He knows that the twins are in danger, and that takes precedence over his guilt.
This is when Koril turns into dark smoke and vanishes. When the witches take control of Kelnacca and attack Torbin and Sol, Koril isn’t among them. Eventually, Indara arrives and frees Kelnacca’s mind, presumably knocking the witches out or killing them in the process. If it’s the former, they were alive when Osha saw them in episode 3 and likely died in the fire. Nowhere in the episode does the audience see Koril die. Combining that with what happens in episode 3, we can speculate that Koril survived.
Where did Mother Koril go in The Acolyte Episode 7?
If Koril did survive, she has every reason to seek revenge against the Jedi. Perhaps, she is the one who saved Mae and later handed her over to Qimir/the Stranger, so that the young girl can learn about the Dark Side of the Force from the Sith and eventually go after the four Jedi responsible for the destruction of their coven.
Alternatively, Koril left Brendok with Mae and embraced aspects of the Sith philosophy, eventually encountering Qimir and becoming his Sith master. Given the similarities between the powers of the coven and Qimir, this is quite possible.
