Fans are curious if it’s true that Jake Gyllenhaal is playing Batman in James Gunn‘s DCU. Here is everything you need to know.
Could Jake Gyllenhaal be the new Batman?
Jake Gyllenhaal has not been cast as Batman in the DCU but has expressed an interest in taking on the role.
Speaking to Screen Rant at a promotional event for his new movie Road House, Gyllenhaal got candid when asked if he was interested in portraying Batman and expressed admiration for the DC superhero and the character’s long movie history, saying:
“Oh, man. That’s a classic. It’s an honor. Speaking of playing roles that other incredible actors have played in the past, to me actually roles that other incredible actors have played in the past, which, to me, actually, when I think about it, I’m going to play Iago in Othello with Denzel Washington, and I think about like the history of actors that have played that role throughout time, and I’m intimidated by that. So that’s the first level. That’s what I’m working on right now. But of course. It would be an honor always. Those types of things and those roles are classics.”
Interestingly, Jake Gyllenhaal almost played Batman in 2005’s Batman Begins by Christopher Nolan. Batman Begins writer David S. Goyer revealed in an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he had originally vouched for Gyllenhaal to play the Dark Knight. However, the role ultimately went to Christian Bale.
Gyllenhaal has shown his ability to produce dynamic and brooding characters in movies like Nightcrawler, Southpaw, and the recent Road House film. The latter two films also showcased his abilities with the kind of fighting styles seen in recent Batman movies.
The role of the DCU’s Batman remains uncast as of writing.
