After reports hit the web that Coyote vs. Acme 2024 has been canceled, many people want to know why and also want to know what the budget was. Here is everything you need to know.
Why is Coyote vs. Acme 2024 being canceled?
Coyote vs. Acme is being canceled and shelved as Warner Bros. and the filmmakers have reportedly failed to find a streaming home for it.
As per a new exclusive report from The Wrap, Coyote vs. Acme was shelved as the filmmakers and Warner Bros. failed to find a new home for the movie. Several interested streaming companies like Netflix, Amazon, and Paramount Plus offered to buy the movie at handsome prices after it was screened and received well. Paramount even offered a theatrical component to their purchase of Coyote vs. Acme.
Unfortunately, Warner Bros set a $75-80 million price tag on the film and rejected Netflix, Paramount Plus, and Amazon’s counter offers. As per the Wrap, the three interested parties were unaware of Warner Bros.’s stance on the sale until they entered the deal with them. Warner Bros. ultimately had enough and decided to cancel the film and write it off as a tax loss. The Wrap report further stated that the four executives behind the film, David Zaslav, Michael De Luca, Pam Abdy, and Bill Damaschke had not even seen the finished version of the film.
This is not surprising as the movie was reportedly almost canceled in November 2023. As reported by Deadline, Warner Bros. and David Zaslav intended to cancel the film outright but did not let the filmmaking team know of the decision until the film’s completion. Once they found out they were upset by the situation, claiming that the film was successful at test screenings. Director Dave Green also expressed his frustration in a personal post.
However, as per another report from The Wrap in 2023, Warner Bros. relented and decided to give the filmmakers a chance to shop the film around potential buyers.
What was the budget of Coyote vs. Acme 2024?
Coyote vs. Acme was reportedly shot on a budget of $70 million.
