James Acaster is playing a character named Lars Pinfield in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
The popular English comedian known for his stand-up specials Repertoire and Cold Lasagne Hate Myself 1999, as well as his food podcast Off-Menu and panel show Hypothetical, is taking on the role of Lars Pinfield. According to writer Jason Reitman in an interview with Empire Magazine, Acaster’s character Pinfield is an “Egon Spengler type” inventor who is responsible for creating new types of ghostbusting technology. “Egon Spengler type” is a reference to Egon Spengler, one of the original characters of the Ghostbusters franchise, played by the late Harold Ramis, who was known for his sharp mind and skills as an inventor.
Reitman also clarified that Acaster’s character is not related in any way to Egon Spengler, despite being an inventor like him. This is unlike several characters in the film such as Callie and her children Trevor and Phoebe Spengler, who are the daughter and grandchildren of Egon Spengler.
Moreover, according to Ghostbusters actor Dan Aykroyd via Ghostbuster News, James Acaster was a delight to work with on the film with Ayrkroyd claiming that he was a wonderful and funny gentleman.
