The Percy Jackson and the Olympians cast adds the Ares and Hephaestus actors to its long list. But who are these Gods and how are they related? Here’s all you need to know about who plays them, and their relationship.
Who plays Ares and Hephaestus in Percy Jackson and the Olympians?
In Percy Jackson on Disney Plus, Ares is played by Adam Copeland and Hephaestus is portrayed by Timothy Omundson.
Copeland is known as the WWE Hall of Famer, Edge. He also played crucial roles in other shows including The Flash and Vikings. Now, he makes his Percy Jackson debut as Ares in episode 5, “A God Buys Us Cheeseburgers,” being the God who buys Grover, Percy, and Annabeth some Cheeseburgers. Then, he also fixes a ride for them to reach Hermes. He is also expected to return later in Season 1.
Meanwhile, Timothy Omundson also gets a small cameo as Hephaestus in episode 5. His career roster of films and TV shows is much bigger. He is known for starring in shows such as Psych, Galavant, and Supernatural, among others. His role in Percy Jackson teases his tragic backstory, which is mentioned below.
Who are Ares and Hephaestus and how are they related in Percy Jackson?
Both Ares and Hephaestus are Greek mythology Gods. They are brothers, being the sons of Zeus and Hera.
In Percy Jackson, Ares is the Greek God of war and courage and Hephaestus is the God of smithing and fire. Due to his looks and valor, Ares was always the popular one among the brothers. Meanwhile, Hephaestus was the neglected child.
Episode 5 teased the mistreatments Hephaestus endured throughout his life. He was rejected by Hera and Zeus due to his appearance. Following that, his wife Aphrodite got involved in an affair with his brother Ares, showing the overall deceitful nature of all the Gods.
In Greek mythology, Hephaestus trapped Ares and Aphrodite in a golden net while they were intimately involved, so he could humiliate them both in front of the other Olympians. But in the series, we saw Percy get trapped in a Golden chair that Hephaestus designed. However, he released the young demigod after looking at the valor, righteousness, and selflessness that both Annabeth and Percy showed.
