Here’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians Episode 4’s ending explained featuring spoilers. Dive into our breakdown of the latest episode and learn where the show is headed.
What happened at the end of Percy Jackson and the Olympians Episode 4?
Percy Jackson took on Echidna and Chimera towards the end of episode 4 and managed to survive with the help of his father.
In the final act, Percy decided to save his friends and sacrifice himself while battling Chimera and Echidna in the St. Louis Arch (an Athenian temple). Initially, the two monsters weren’t supposed to enter the temple. But the impertinence of Percy, Annabeth, and Grover while sending Medusa’s head to Olympus made Athena angry. So, she let Echidna into the sanctuary to go after Percy.
Not having much battle experience, the young demigod loses the bout and falls from the giant arch. Since he is a forbidden child, he doesn’t expect any help. But fortunately for him, his father intervenes and sends a stream of water to break his fall. He also sends a messenger who delivers a message to Percy stating that he needs to put more faith in his father.
While Percy is stuck underwater trying to make it out, the messenger asks him to breathe, reiterating what his mother told him in a flashback earlier in the episode. That is when Percy realizes his ability to breathe underwater, which he inherited from Poseidon.
Who are Echidna and Chimera in Percy Jackson and the Olympians?
Percy Jackson and the Olympians brings the mother of all Monsters, Echidna, and her daughter Chimera to life from Greek mythology.
Played by Suzanne Cryer, Echidna goes after Percy and his friends on a train. In the books, she is sent after them by Zeus. But here, she intends to end demigods. As mentioned above, she is the mother of all Monsters in the Greek Mythology. But her appearance is very different from the books where she is a big lady with a forked tongue and fangs.
To take down Percy and co, she brings in a young Chimera, who is part lion, part goat, and part snake in Greek Mythology. While Percy survived their attack, their threat still looms over the trio.
What’s next for Percy Jackson, Annabeth, and Grover?
In Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 5, Percy, Grover, and Annabeth will continue their journey to the underworld through Waterland.
The teaser placed at the end of episode 4 shows Percy Jackson and Annabeth making their way to the Waterland, which possibly leads them to Hades’ Underworld. They also get separated from Grover. But the teaser ends by introducing Adam Copeland’s Ares, the God of War. So, viewers should expect an encounter with the son of Zeus and Hera soon.
