The entire cast of Fargo’s latest season had to hone in on a Midwest accent due to the show’s setting in Minnesota and North Dakota. Richa Moorjani, who plays Officer Indira Olmstead, and Juno Temple, playing Dot Lyon, have also picked up the area-specific accent alongside Jennifer Jason Leigh.
Why does Jennifer Jason Leigh’s voice sound different in Fargo?
Due to Fargo Season 5 being set in Minnesota and North Dakota, and Jennifer Jason Leigh’s character being from the Midwest, the actress had to work on a different accent. That’s why her voice sounds different than it usually does.
In Leigh’s interview with TV Insider, she revealed why she had to change her accent and who was the inspiration behind it. She said:
“Noah and I talked a lot about her [Lorraine Lyon] and where she wanted to distance herself from and what she might sound like. [We] kind of landed on William F. Buckley. So I watched a lot of Firing Line, and it’s a really fun accent to do.”
She revealed that William F. Buckley inspired her accent in the series.
