It was originally reported in December 2020 that a TV spin-off to The Princess and the Frog was in development. It was also revealed that Anika Noni Rose, who voices Tiana in the 2009 film, would reprise her role. In November 2021, it was reported that Disney had hired Stella Meghie to write and direct the project. She previously pitched a live-action remake of The Princess and the Frog, but it was unsuccessful. The series was initially supposed to premiere in 2022 but was delayed until 2023, and once again until 2024. Later, the 2024 release date was replaced on the show’s webpage with the words “coming soon to Disney+.”
In October 2023, it was announced that Joyce Sherri had joined the project as the lead writer and director, with Meghie serving as an executive producer. So, it is possible that fresh things were being added to the script as recently as the previous month, if the said script didn’t undergo a complete overhaul altogether. Considering all this, we can speculate that Tiana will likely come out in late 2024 at the earliest.

This is because Tiana is a Disney project and has been in development at Disney Plus since the beginning. In fact, the series was announced alongside the Moana and Cars (Cars on the Road) spin-off animated shows, Zootopia+, Baymax! (a spinoff to Big Hero 6), and Iwájú (an upcoming project set in a futuristic Lagos, Nigeria), in December 2020.
