Shows Like Dark Winds: What TV Shows To Watch Next

Many viewers are looking for shows like Dark Winds. It is set in the 70s and delivers multiple psychological thriller stories based on Tony Hillerman’s “Leaphorn & Chee” novel series. In it, Navajo police officers Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee solve grim cases involving robberies and homicides.

But if you’re done with its seasons, then there are quite a few shows similar to Dark Winds that involve double leads and/or long-drawn murder mystery investigations, which have been listed below.

List of shows like Dark Winds

True Detective

Without a doubt, True Detective has to be the first series on the list. It is an anthology show that brings multiple dark and twisted homicide cases to life. In season 1, a couple of police officers face dark secrets about themselves and others close to them while looking for homicide perpetrators. This is perhaps the closest one could get to watching a Dark Winds-like series.

Fargo

Fargo is another anthology series that brings many crime drama stories to life. But it also adds a bit of comedy to the gritty and dark elements across multiple seasons. Different seasons focus on separate leads who deal with a plethora of crimes in different time periods. While its four seasons can be vastly distinguished from each other, they do vibe similar to Dark Winds having connections to the West.

Godless

Like Dark Winds, the highly-rated series Godless is also set in the West. However, its events occur in the 1800s, instead of the 70s. It follows the chase of a young outlaw, Roy Goode, by Frank Griffin. Goode betrays Griffin’s gang and finds refuge in the mining town of La Belle in New Mexico. Surprisingly, the town is populated by just women who gang up to fend off Griffin as he seeks to take down Goode for good.

Outer Range

Outer Range is a neo-Western story which adds a sci-fi element to the mystery. The Abbot family plays a central role here as they fight for their ranch and land. While they cope with the disappearance of their daughter-in-law Rebecca, the neighboring ranch owners, Tillerstones, try to make a play for their land.

However, things get even tenser when a mysterious black void appears in the Abbotts’ west pasture, kicking in the sci-fi element of the story.
