Dark Winds executive producer Chris Eyre addresses the potential for a third installment of the acclaimed AMC psychological thriller series.
Will Dark Winds Return for Season 3?
“I don’t feel like we’ve hit our stride with this series,” Eyre told TVLine. “There are 18 [Leaphorn & Chee] books by Tony Hillerman, and there are five by Anne Hillerman, so there’s enough detective/Navajo police drama to continue bringing to the small screen.”
Eyre, who also directed the show’s season 2 finale, continued: “Somebody at my gym mentioned this to me, that ‘I just want to see what happens to the characters now. It feels like we’ve gotten the show on its feet. And now that it’s on its feet I want to know what happens to the characters, too. I think that their evolution could be a long time coming — and a great journey.”
As of now, AMC has yet to make an announcement regarding the future of Dark Winds. The thriller adaptation was among the AMC shows that were added to Max as part of a two-month programming popup.
Dark Winds stars Zahn McClarnon as Joe Leaphorn, Kiowa Gordon as Jim Chee, Jessica Matten as Sgt. Manuelito, Deanna Allison as Emma Leaphorn, and Elva Guerra as Sally Growing Thunder. A Martinez as Sheriff Gordo Sena, Joseph Runningfox as Henry Leaphorn, Jeri Ryan as Rosemary Vines, and Nicholas Logan as Colton Wolf.
“Lt. Joe Leaphorn, reunites with Jim Chee, his former deputy turned private eye, when their separate cases bring them together in pursuit of the same suspect.” reads the season 2 synopsis. “They find themselves in the high desert of Navajo Country chasing a killer who’s turned his sights on them to protect a secret that rips open old wounds and challenges Leaphorn’s moral and professional code.”
Dark Winds is created and executive produced by Graham Roland. McClarnon executive produces along with George R.R. Martin, Robert Redford, Anne Hillerman, Chris Eyre, Vince Gerardis, and Tina Elmo.
