This move seemed like damage control after former CEO Bob Chapek was fired over making some damaging decisions for Disney during the pandemic.
Actor Tim Allen also confirmed that the development of Toy Story 5 had been long in progress before the movie was even announced in February 2023. The news has had polarizing views from fans. While some have been welcoming of the decision, others feel that it isn’t necessary as the characters received closure in part 4.
Considering the losses Disney might have faced during the pandemic, a sequel to one of their highest-grossing films (over $3 billion according to The Numbers) is a definite no-brainer. Regardless of whether it is a financial decision, there is excitement around the storyline for the fifth installment.
