Constantine 2 Release Date Rumors: Is It Coming Out?

After rumors about Keanu Reeves’ return to DC, Constantine 2’s release date has been highly anticipated by many fans over the last few years. The first one left room for more stories, with the reveal that John Constantine’s friend Chas has come back as an angel. But will he and Constantine get to return in the long-awaited sequel?

Is there a Constantine 2 release date?

There is no Constantine 2 release date as the chances of it happening are very low under the new DC leadership.

While promoting John Wick: Chapter 4 back in March 2023, Keanu Reeves told Cinemablend that he and others involved have been trying to get Constantine 2 made. But the John Wick star also stated that he doesn’t know if the film will happen now under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s leadership. Keeping in mind that there’s a possibility for it under DC’s Elseworlds category, Reeves said, “Hopefully I get to do it, but, I don’t know.”

But James Gunn also stated that the bar for Elseworlds stories will have to be higher. He said:

“The bar for an Elseworlds tale is going to be higher than the bar for a movie within the DCU. Not that we’re not always going to have a high bar, but it’s got to be something really special for us to tell that story outside of our regular continuity and to spend the money to make it.”

So, getting a Constantine sequel greenlit would be tough, especially after the recent DC box office failures. On top of that, there are many other DCU projects already in line after Gunn’s Superman: Legacy. Hence, the script for Constantine 2 will have to be extremely strong for it to be approved. But all that seems highly unlikely for now. The chances for the film to happen have become very slim under Gunn and Safran’s leadership.

Is Constantine 2 coming out soon?

No, Constantine 2 isn’t confirmed to release in theaters yet.

If it ever happens, we can expect Keanu Reeves to return as Constantine and Peter Stormare as Lucifer. However, Shia LaBeouf’s return as Chas seems less likely based on the actor’s more recent role choices in movies.
