With critics praising Blue Beetle, fans are wondering about the possibility of a Blue Beetle 2 release date. The film introduces Jaime Reyes, a college graduate who becomes the host of an alien Scarab that gives him superpowers and turns him into the hero of Palmera City. But will the Blue Beetle movie get a sequel, and when would it come out?

Is there a Blue Beetle 2 release date?
There is no Blue Beetle 2 release date as the sequel hasn’t been greenlit yet.
At the moment of writing, Blue Beetle 2 has not been greenlit. But fans of the film can hope for it because James Gunn has already confirmed that it takes place within his new DC Universe. He stated on his Instagram post:
“I can’t wait for audiences to meet Jaime Reyes, who will be an amazing part of the DCU going forward!”
However, the sequel will mainly depend upon the overall performance of the first film. Director Angel Manuel Soto told Yahoo! Entertainment that he hopes for a Blue Beetle trilogy. But Jaime Reyes actor Xolo Maridueña mentioned that Blue Beetle’s DCU future hinges on one condition.
In an interview with Fandango he said that for Blue Beetle to continue, people have to “show up” for the first one, implying that it needs to make enough money at the box office.
Even if Blue Beetle 2 gets greenlit, it will be hard to predict its release year as James Gunn has an entire slate of movies and TV series to focus on after Superman: Legacy. But the regular norm for a sequel is 3-4 years. So, accordingly, a Blue Beetle sequel could arrive sometime in 2027, if not later, after it gets announced officially.

Blue Beetle 2 cast and what it could be about
Besides Maridueña in the lead, the sequel should bring back Bruna Marquezine as Jenny Kord, and the Reyes family including George Lopez as Rudy Reyes, Belissa Escobedo as Milagro Reyes, Adriana Barraza as Nana, and Elpidia Carrillo as Rocio Reyes. Apart from them, a new actor playing Ted Kord would be introduced.
He’d be back to take on the mantle of Blue Beetle and team up with Jaime. But Maridueña also explained that “if [Blue Beetle] does well, we’ll get to open more doors.” In the sequel(s), “We’ve got a whole thing set up” with “many Beetles from so many comics.” So, fans could also see more Beetles from the Scarab’s planet of origin.
