Bobby “Axe” Axelrod is a fan-favorite Billions character, but he doesn’t feature in every season of the show. With him missing from season 6 and half of season 7, many fans are wondering what happened to Axe and where he went. Here’s the need-to-know info.
What happened to Bobby “Axe” Axelrod on Billions?
To avoid facing prosecution in the U.S., Axe fled to Switzerland.
For the duration of season 6, Axe is not featured. It’s assumed that he is simply continuing his life in Switzerland and won’t be returning to the United States anytime soon.
Axe’s place was filled by Mike Prince, who became Chuck Rhodes’ new rival. Prince took over Axe’s hedge fund and continued the battle against Rhodes. However, in season 7, Axe makes his return.
What happened to actor Damien Lewis?
In 2021, Axe actor Damien Lewis suffered the tragic loss of his wife, which is thought to have led to him taking a break from the Billions show and other acting commitments.
In February 2023, Damien Lewis confirmed that he would be returning to Billions for the final season. It’s confirmed that Lewis will appear as Axe in six of the season’s 12 episodes.
While it’s obviously awful to know that Damien Lewis has been through some incredibly tough times over the last couple of years, his return to the show will no doubt please fans. What’s more, with season 7 being the final season, Axe’s presence should help provide a poetic and “proper” ending to the show.
It remains to be seen who ends up on top at the end of Billions. With Axe now back and ready for revenge, the finale is sure to be explosive.
