The Paramount Plus schedule for August 14-20 features an intriguing documentary on Elvis Presley and a Steven Spielberg-directed blockbuster.
On Tuesday, August 15, the streamer will add Reinventing Elvis: The ’68 Comeback to its available content. The documentary focuses on Elvis Presley‘s ’68 Comeback Special, a concert special by the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll that aired on NBC in December 1968 and is often considered a turning point in his music and public image. Before the special, Elvis had been focusing on making movies, and his musical career had somewhat stalled. Directed by Steve Binder, the special was a mixture of a live concert performance and pre-recorded segments, revealing Elvis’ true self through music and marking his return to live performances.
Starting Wednesday, August 16, Paramount Plus subscribers can watch 2005’s War of the Worlds. Directed by Spielberg and starring Tom Cruise, the story follows a divorced father and his children as they try to survive the Martian invasion. A modern adaptation of H. G. Wells’ 1898 novel, The War of the Worlds, the movie grossed over $600 million at the box office, one of the biggest successes in Spielberg’s career after Jurassic Park, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and The Lost World: Jurassic Park. The cast included Dakota Fanning, Miranda Otto, and Tim Robbins, among others. War of the Worlds received Oscar nominations for Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Sound Editing.
