The 2025 release date is due to the ongoing strikes by the Writer’s Guild of America and SAG Aftra actors. This has resulted in productions everywhere temporarily shutting down, making it possible that production plans for Cruel Summer Season 3 were also halted. Moreover, Cruel Summer’s executive producer Michelle Purple told E! News in an interview that a third season depended on the fans viewing Season 2 and making it a success.
