After making his debut in The Batman, all eyes are set on Oswald Cobblepot’s return in The Penguin (TV series) that will expand Matt Reeves’ Bat-verse within DC’s Elseworlds division. Since Colin Farrell’s performance became so iconic, it’s understandable why many fans are looking forward to the release of his solo DC series on MAX. But does it have a release date yet? The Penguin TV series’ release date could arrive by mid-late 2024.
Matt Reeves’ Penguin series began production in March 2023 but came to a halt in June 2023 due to the WGA strike. It will wrap things up in the coming months and is set to arrive sometime in 2024. Considering that it might need ample time in the post-production stage, it could arrive in mid-late 2024, more than a year before The Batman 2 (October 3, 2025).
This date is an estimation based on the information we have so far. ComingSoon will provide an update to this story once we receive official details.
The Batman setup up Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot’s story arc perfectly. We might see a few flashbacks revealing his past. But mostly, The Penguin’s story will take place after The Batman. He was a low-tier criminal in the film. But with Carmine Falcone out of the picture, the spot to become Gotham’s new crime lord is up for grabs.
As a result, The Penguin TV series will showcase Oz rising up the ranks to become the new kingpin of Gotham. He might even take down a few other popular Batman villains to do that.
Besides Colin Farrell’s Oz, we’ll see Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone, Clancy Brown as Salvatore Maroni, Michael Zegen as Alberto Falcone, and possibly even Jeffrey Wright’s Jim Gordon. It is possible for Robert Pattinson to make a cameo as Bruce Wayne in The Penguin series to set up Batman 2.
