The Amazon Prime Video schedule for June 19-25 has been revealed. Here are the new TV shows and movies being added to the service.
On Friday, June 23, the Amazon-owned streamer will add all seven installments of I’m A Virgo to its content. Created by Boots Riley (Sorry to Bother You), the show follows the misadventures of a 13-foot-tall young Black man portrayed by Jharrel Jerome. The cast includes Mike Epps, Carmen Ejogo, Brett Gray, Kara Young, and Walton Goggins, among others. The series was positively received during its premiere at the South by Southwest earlier this year. Boots Riley and Tze Chun (Gotham) are serving as the series co-showrunners in addition to executive producing.
“The series is a darkly comedic fantastical coming-of-age joyride about Cootie, a 13-foot-tall young Black man in Oakland, California. Having grown up hidden away, passing time on a diet of comic books and TV shows, he escapes to experience the beauty and contradictions of the real world,” reads the synopsis. “He forms friendships, finds love, navigates awkward situations, and encounters his idol, the real-life superhero named The Hero. I’m A Virgo is a mythical odyssey that questions the purpose of the mythical odyssey.”
I’m A Virgo hails from Amazon Studios and Media Res Studio. Jerome is also executive producing alongside Michael Ellenberg, Lindsey Springer, and Rebecca Rivo.
Prime Video will also add Armageddon Time to its catalog starting Tuesday, June 20. Written and directed by James Gray, the movie stars Anne Hathaway, Jeremy Strong, Banks Repeta, Jaylin Webb, Tovah Feldshuh, Ryan Sell, and Anthony Hopkins. The coming-of-age drama premiered at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival and received good reviews, but grossed about $6 million during its theatrical run.
