The House of the Dragon Seasmoke dragon made a distant appearance in the second episode of Season 2. The dragon rider for Seasmoke used to be Laenor Velaryon, who was last seen faking his death and disappearing in the first season, leaving Seasmoke free and essentially unbonded. It almost looked like the dragon had died or went missing as well, but it reappeared in the background during a rather mundane scene with the new character, Addam of Hull, spotting crabs on the beach. Here’s whether Seasmoke will have a new dragon rider in House of the Dragon Season 2.
Will Seasmoke have a new dragon rider in House of the Dragon Season 2?
It looks like Seasmoke will have a new dragon rider at some point in House of the Dragon Season 2, and that person looks to be Addam of Hull.
Much of the evidence that points to this is the books, where Addam proves himself by taming Seasmoke. While the show has revealed Addam to be the brother of Alyn of Hull, who Corlys Velaryon greatly respects for saving him, it hasn’t been revealed yet that both Addam and Alyn are bastards of Corlys. This relationship is hinted at in the season 2 premiere and will likely be revealed later in the show.
If Addam is able to become the dragon rider for Seasmoke, it will provide the merit Corlys would be looking for to legitimize him, along with his brother, as part of the Velaryon bloodline. Should this happen, it would greatly change Addam and Alyn’s station in life, though it looks like Alyn is not as ready to be put into the line of fire in the Targaryen civil war as his brother is.
Still, in the books at least, Addam and Alyn earn their Velaryon last name and become a vital part in the battles to come on the side of Rhaenyra Targaryen. And she’ll need as many dragons and dragon riders on her side if they are to compete with the Greens and hope to match the power of Aemond Targaryon’s dragon Vhagar.
