Early on in The Boys Season 4, we see that Homelander has begun to have gray hair. While it’s expected he’d be concerned about them, we later find out that he’s keeping them in a jar in his room at Vought Tower. Most people would agree that’s pretty weird, so what’s his reasoning behind it?
Why is Homelander keeping his gray hair in The Boys Season 4?
Early on in The Boys Season 4, Episode 1, Homelander is standing at a urinal and discovers a gray pubic hair. Many people in their 30s and 40s can identify with that moment when you find out you’re starting to go gray. However, we see later in the episode that Homelander keeps his gray hair in a jar alongside Stormlander’s wedding photo, Black Noir’s sword, and one of Madelyn Stillwell’s breast milk containers.
Obviously, this behavior is highly odd, but it’s in line with Homelander’s self-obsessed behavior. One of his primary ambitions is to change the world to put the supes in charge, and the gray hair is a reminder that the clock is ticking down on this ambition.
Another reason Homelander is obsessed with his gray hair is that it’s proof that he’s not the greatest supe ever. His biological father, Soldier Boy, either didn’t age or aged extremely slowly, a power that wasn’t handed down to Homelander. Despite his considerable powers, Homelander has to face the fact that he ages at the same speed as a regular human.
Homelander will perceive his aging as a weakness, which may make him act even more erratically in Season 4. He’s already brought Sister Sage into the Seven to accelerate his plans for supe supremacy. It may even override his desire for public adoration. In the past, the need to keep his image intact prevented him from causing massive havoc, but as the clock keeps ticking, he’s likely to take more risks.
