Following a leak earlier in the day, a clockwork like occurrence for the series, Ubisoft has officially confirmed that the next entry in the Assassin’s Creed series is titled Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and will take place against the backdrop of ancient Greece.
In the video below, the developed has announced they’ll fully reveal the game at this year’s E3 (set to take place June 12 – 14 in Los Angeles) and showed off a character kicking a combatant in the chest and down a cliff like fan-favorite Leonidas from 300.
The title for the game is no doubt a nod to Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey, telling the story of Greek hero Odysseus as he attempts to travel home to his family after the Trojan War. Whether the game will factor in the events of that poem remains to be seen.
The most recent entry in the franchise was Assassin’s Creed Origins, released last year, which dialed the events of the game all the way back to Egypt during the Ptolemaic period (49–47 BC). Odyssey could become a counterpart to the title as the Ancient Egyptions and Ancient Greeks interacted throughout the tumultuous centuries which they existed.
