Developer Matt Dabrowski and publisher tinyBuild revealed the open-world sandbox game Streets of Rogue 2 last August. Fans of pixel-art mayhem won’t have to wait much longer now, with the game launching in Steam early access on August 14.

Streets of Rogue 2 takes players to a “city of dreams” lorded over by a corrupt president. “Pursue the coup with total freedom,” says tinyBuild, “whether that means running amok in a chaotic crime spree or roleplaying as a boy scout to help out numerous townsfolk with side quests to unlock sweet rewards.”
There are many paths to victory, including hacking mainframes, releasing a zombie plague, and bribing your way to power as a farming mogul. The new trailer, meanwhile, shows players doing things like riding bears, freeing prisoners, and turning nightclub patrons into rampaging giants. Alternatively, players can build a little cabin in the woods and pretend they are playing Stardew Valley.
Streets of Rogue 2 also gives players a variety of tools with which to carry out their revolution. Weapons range from machine guns and rocket launchers to bear traps and banana peels, and there is a wide range of vehicles to choose from. The procedurally generated Environments are also fully destructible and highly varied, including cities, forests, spooky graveyards, and tropical islands.
Different characters feature unique abilities. Streets of Rogue 2 previously announced the Soldier, Doctor, Bartender, and Gorilla, with tinyBuild announcing the Hacker, Ninja, and Chef in a recent press release. These likely aren’t the only ones either, as the first game featured 26 characters, with more added through DLC.
Solo developer Matt Dabrowski released the first Streets of Rogue in 2019, earning an Overwhelming Positive rating on Steam. Hopefully, the new game lives up to the standard set by its predecessor.
