Skydance shared a trailer for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra during Epic Games’ State of Unreal showcase on Wednesday. The trailer teased the game’s story, showing the tension between Captain America and Black Panther, and revealed its 2025 release window.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra trailer teases story and gameplay
Skydance’s Marvel 1943 is loosely inspired by the Captain America/Black Panther: Flags of Our Fathers limited-run comic series from 2010. As the trailer shows, Steve Rogers is on a mission in Nazi-occupied Paris. However, he has a less-than-friendly encounter with Azzuri, T’Challa’s grandfather and the 1940s incarnation of the Black Panther. Both heroes are there to stop Hydra from claiming a mysterious artifact called the Eye of Force. However, they aren’t exactly on the same side, as the trailer culminates in a fight between the two superheroes.
Captain America and Black Panther got the most attention in the trailer, but they aren’t the only main characters. In addition to Rogers and Azzuri, players will also take the role of US commando Gabriel Jones and Wakandan spy Nanali.
While the Marvel 1943 trailer features all four characters, it didn’t reveal much about Jones’ and Nanali’s gameplay. However, it offers a preview of what the player should expect when controlling the two superheroes. Black Panther seems to favor stealth over brute force, traveling by rooftops and ambushing enemies from behind. Meanwhile, the trailer shows Captain America taking a more direct approach, taking on groups of enemies thanks to his iconic shield.
Marvel 1943 was published and developed by Skydance New Media, which is also working on a new Star Wars game. It’s co-produced and co-written by Amy Hemming, who was Creative Director of the first three Uncharted Games.
