Last week, rumors began floating around that the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake was effectively dead and no longer being developed. A new report suggests that isn’t true.
In a recent tweet, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier noted that he had spoken with two members of Saber Interactive — who took over production for the game from Aspyr last year — that told him they were still working on the game.
“Can’t say whether the KOTOR Remake will ever actually come out, but yes, two people from Saber Interactive tell me they’re still on it, despite recent rumors that nobody is working on the game,” said Schreier in his tweet.
Knights of the Old Republic rumored to no longer be in the works
During his Game Mess show last week, Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb briefly touched on the remake, saying that the game not only isn’t being worked on at Aspyr Media, but it isn’t being worked on anywhere.
“I just want to clear it up, this game is not being worked on right now,” Grubb said. “Just full stop. This game is not being worked on in any way, at any studio.”
The comments came shortly after Embracer Group CEO Lars Wingefors declined to make any comment when asked about the remake during a recent financial presentation. The no comment, as well as Grubb’s consistent message that no work is being done on the game, have led many to believe that the project is simply not happening anymore.
Reports from Schreier in 2022 noted Aspyr would no longer work on the game and that Saber Interactive — another subsidiary of the Embracer Group — would take up development. It’s unclear what, exactly, caused Aspyr to put the game on pause, but the game does seem to still be on track for a release at some point in the future.
