The Lord of the Rings: Gollum: Precious Edition was announced to come with special Sindarin DLC for the game’s Elves that let them speak more in their native tongue. Some took that to mean that Sindarin is only for those who get the DLC, but Daedalic Entertainment has cleared the air and explained that that isn’t the case.
As noted in statements sent to Push Square and Eurogamer, Elves will still speak Sindarin in the world “when necessary” in the base game. This DLC just adds more flavor text in the background.
“Sindarin VO expansion adds additional Sindarin lines to some of the characters in the background,” said the representative. “While traversing through Mirkwood and other parts of Middle-earth, Gollum will be able to listen to various dialogues between Elves. These dialogues add to the atmosphere and worldbuilding.”
These voices were even done by people who had been trained in the fictional lanuage.
“Daedalic went the extra mile here and hired professional voice actors, who were trained in Sindarin by our lore experts,” said the statement. “It is a DLC for the real Tolkien devotees who want to immerse themselves even more into the world of Middle-earth.”
The split between what’s included in the DLC and what isn’t remains to be seen, as the game is still over a month from release.
