The world of League of Legends is set to change very soon, as Riot Games has announced that they would be disabling the game’s /all chat feature in its latest patch.

According to a recent blog post by Riot, the move comes as a result of rising issues of “verbal abuse” that have been mentioned in the game. With that in mind, League of Legend’s patch 11.21 will disable its /all chat for matchmaking queues.
“While /all chat can be the source of fun social interaction between teams, as well as some good-hearted banter, right now negative interactions outweigh the positives,” the developers explained. “We’ll evaluate the impact of this change through verbal abuse reports and penalty rates, as well as surveys and direct feedback from you all.”
As of right now, the move is only being done as a test in order to evaluate what changing the chat will do for the impact of verbal abuse reports and penalty rates. Nothing else in the game is set to change, however, so enemies in the game will still be able to hear and see any emotes players share. Likewise, the end of the game chat will still be cross-team, and allies can still communicate via team chat in the game.

Riot Games noted that things like team chat can still provide a toxic environment, but that the function still serves as an important one for coordinating during games, so the hope is that they’re able to curb toxic behavior from fans while still retaining many of League of Legend‘s core functions.
