Nintendo has revealed a new The Legend of Zelda game with a big twist. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom got a release date during the new Nintendo Direct, but the biggest piece of news was the fact that Zelda will be taking on the role of the heroine in the upcoming Nintendo Switch game.
When is The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom release date?
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will be released on September 26, 2024. On the same day that the game arrives, Nintendo will also be releasing a gold-colored Nintendo Switch Lite Hyrule Edition system. Inspired by the Legend of Zelda series, the new console will also have the Hylian Crest on its back.
A new protagonist means a new gameplay style as the franchise abandons the top-down perspective. The trailer shows Zelda trapped in a large crystal as Link fights to save her. During the battle Link is swallowed up by a strange rift. As he disappears, he fires an arrow that frees Zelda and she is left to run for her life before she also becomes a victim.
Those strange rifts have been stealing away the people of Hyrule and it is now up to Zelda to save the day. She teams up with the fairy, Tri, and uses the power of a mysterious staff called the Tri Rod to create echoes that imitate everyday objects.
Zelda can use things like tables and crates to climb up to tall ledges. Water blocks can be stacked for her to swim through to reach inaccessible areas. Enemies can be defeated by thrown rock echoes, and defeated enemies can even become echoes themselves to fight by Zelda’s side. The sheer number of echoes means that players can solve puzzles in a variety of different ways and it’s entirely possible for no two players to have the same experience.
