Epic Games is considering launching its own entertainment division, according to a recent report from The Information (via Eurogamer).

The company is said to be focusing on scripted video programming with a potential movie based on the hit video game Fortnite. However, Epic could also simply be looking to diversify itself even further and expand into a territory it hasn’t explored just yet.
The report notes that plans for its entertainment division began early in 2021 when the company brought on several executives from Lucasfilm, including Jason McGatlin, the former vice president of Physical Production at the company. Head of Business Affairs Lynn Bartsch and Vice President of Production Finance Chris Furia are also coming over from LucasFilm.
A potential Fortnite movie has also reportedly been discussed in the past, so it seems as if Epic is at least trying to prepare for the possibility of bringing its game to the big screen. Epic has not commented either way.

It wouldn’t be too shocking to see Fortnite make the jump to the world of movies, as the game has already become a playground for some of the biggest film franchises ever as is. Everything from Marvel, DC, Die Hard, and Alien have been included in Fortnite on top of its own lore and story that it’s been telling for years now. With films like Ready Player One having an original story built on top of established franchises, a Fortnite movie doesn’t sound too outlandish.
