After launching in April 2019, NetherRealm has announced it is done supporting Mortal Kombat 11. According to the developer, there will be no more Mortal Kombat 11 DLC coming in the future, which includes fighters. It’s unclear if “support” also extends to balance patches, which other NetherRealm games have gotten after DLC has come to an end.
NetherRealm is now focusing on its next project and after more than two years of supporting Mortal Kombat 11, DLC for the game, including characters, has come to an end.

The typically silent Mortal Kombat Twitter account tweeted the news of the halted support. Fans had already suspected that more content wasn’t coming out, given how the game hasn’t gotten any new content since November 2020 when MK11 Ultimate dropped and added fan favorites like Mileena, Rain, and Rambo.

The fighter had also only gotten a couple of very small balance updates in the ensuing months. Kombat League seasons were also being recycled with only scant amounts of new gear. There weren’t any new Krypt events. There was no meaningful celebration for its second anniversary. Some did hold out hope because of how silence can be interpreted either way, but, alas, that hope for Kombat Pack 3 has been smashed.
Regardless, this has been the longest NetherRealm has supported any of its games, which was the intent from the start. Mortal Kombat 9 and Injustice: Gods Among Us both got four fighters that were just spread out a few months after launch. Mortal Kombat X and Injustice 2 extended that and got eight and nine fighters, respectively, doled out over their first seven to 10 months. Mortal Kombat 11 pushed that even further by having 12 fighters and a story expansion over a year-and-a-half.

NetherRealm has not announced its next title, which is peculiar for a team that usually releases a game every other spring. Rumors have been swirling about the team’s next game being a Marvel fighting game, and while there is some circumstantial (and, perhaps, coincidental) evidence to support that claim, NetherRealm has not confirmed or denied said rumors.
