Synopsis:
The following is from the DVD cover:
“Get ready for more fun, attitude and excitement in this all-new comedy! When popular Britney Allen moves from posh Pacific Vista to working-class Crenshaw Heights, her life goes from cheer-topia to cheer-tastrophe. Britney finds herself at odds with her new classmates, especially head cheerleader Camille. But when she wins a spot on the cheer squad and faces her former team in a cross-town cheer-off to star in music sensation Rihanna’s upcoming video, only one team can “bring it” and earn a place in cheer history!
“Bring It On: All or Nothing” is rated PG-13 for sexual humor and language.
Mini-Review:
I’m, like, so totally not in the target demographic for this movie. It was made for teen girls and I’m pretty much at the opposite end of the spectrum. It doesn’t help matters that I didn’t see the other “Bring It On” movies, so I have nothing to compare this to. So how does it stand on its own? Not very well. I got bored with this movie very quickly. I felt like I was sentenced to spending 2 hours with bratty, chatty teenage girls at the mall. There was a time when that would have been cool with me, but not now. This movie also made me feel hopelessly old. I watched them demonstrate a new dance style called “krumping.” I imagine my reaction was similar to that of old people who first saw rock and roll in the 50’s. The dancing involves making moves similar to epileptic seizures and body slamming people. There was very little that I liked about this movie.
One of the few positive things I can say about “Bring It On: All or Nothing” is that Hayden Panettiere is a talent to watch in the future. She’s already had a great career as a child actress, but with the right material (like her role in “Heroes”) she could be a star to watch. I was also impressed by her cheerleading stunts in the film. Solange Knowles-Smith was also pretty good for a relative newcomer, but this was not a career launching role for her.
Hayden Panettiere is really only for teenage girls, cheerleaders, and anyone that saw the first two films. Everyone else should avoid it.
As for the DVD bonus features, there’s a decent selection. You have your standard gag reel, behind the scenes footage, and more. You’ll also find a special on the actor’s cheerleading camp, a choreography featurette, and a second dance featurette with Lil C and Richmond. I have no idea who they are, but maybe you do. If you do, then this DVD is for you.
