Synopsis:
The following is from the DVD cover:
“With hot stars Jason Scott Lee (Dracula II: Ascension, Dracula III: Legacy), Kari Wuhrer (The Prophecy: Uprising, Hellraiser: Deader), and Doug Bradley (The Prophecy: Uprising, Hellraiser franchise) back for more supernatural thrills, The Prophecy: Forsaken is the fifth electrifying feature in the Prophecy saga! As an ancient religious text — the Lexicon — continues to write itself and reveal eternal mysteries of the universe, it is now believed to contain the exact time when the Antichrist will arrive! With control of the Lexicon and its enormous power at stake, a group of fallen angels will stop at nothing to capture it and the young woman (Wuhrer) who possesses it!”
The Prophecy: Forsaken is rated R for violence and some sexuality/nudity
The Movie:
The previous film in The Prophecy series was surprisingly good. It had an interesting concept, intriguing characters, and a unique look. Unfortunately The Prophecy: Forsaken has none of that going for it. The characters aren’t all that engaging, the unique look of Romania isn’t taken advantage of, and the story is boring. In fact, this movie does very little to advance the overall Prophecy storyline. It has all the markings of “bridge syndrome”. The whole purpose of the story is to rearrange the characters, or bridge them, from the previous movie to the next more interesting chapter. Sure, there are a couple of revelations about Allison, but nothing that you needed a whole movie to tell about. I wouldn’t recommend you going out of your way to see this one unless you’re a big Prophecy fan, Kari Wuhrer fan, or Jason Scott Lee fan.
The Extras:
The only bonus feature on this DVD is a commentary by the director, the editor, and a couple of other crew members. It’s pretty much your standard fare with tales from the set, stories of filming in Romania, etc.
The Bottom Line:
The Prophecy: Forsaken probably isn’t going to please Prophecy fans and people that haven’t followed the series aren’t going to be able to jump on board without having seen at least the previous movie. You’re better off passing on this one.
